CONTEMPLATIVE THUMBS- a poem by Stanley McDaniels- Poet of d Week 090315

That an umbrella will dance on its 8th anniversary
is common knowledge,

so,

fret NOrTh!

Defeat is a difficult pill to swallow
in a game of polls
where choice is bought and sold,

hearts are exchanged for votes
to predict our future past.

That is why the pawns go first:
To break the balance
upon which their fate is hanged,

with thumbs plagued by hunger,
mourning every morning

Their progeny claimed by bullets and knives,
dearth and drought,
darkness at noon
bringing dreamless nights.

The sun will once again be the referee,
when the umbrella and the broom put on white hats

and speak words of fabricated truth!
